Water Reclamation Plant Operator Training Program

The City of San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD) operates the Margaret H. Chandler Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) and the Colton/San Bernardino Rapid Infiltration and Extraction (RIX) Tertiary Treatment Facility. Wastewater treatment plant operators, certified by the State of California, are responsible for the operation of the facilities.

About the Program

The need for certified operators has created a demand for those who are interested in a career as a wastewater treatment plant operator. The SBMWD, in cooperation with San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), has developed a wastewater operator training program to provide hands-on training to SBVC students to meet the minimum one year (2080 hours) experience required to qualify for the Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.

Please refer to the program details (PDF) for information, including SBVC enrollment requirements, specific program details and for an application form, which must be submitted to the SBMWD.
