The SBMWD, in cooperation with San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), has developed a wastewater operator training program to provide hands-on training to SBVC students to meet the minimum one year (2080 hours) experience required to qualify for the Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
SBMWD is committed to investing in water education to support the next generation of water professionals, who will one day manage and protect our local water resources.
The demand for certified and trained professionals is increasing in the water field. Industry experts predict a significant portion of experienced water workers will retire over the next decade. Without an influx of new workers entering the field, this trend could create a shortfall of trained professionals who are qualified to maintain the water and wastewater systems which serve the public. This is why water technology programs are so valuable to our community.
Through San Bernardino Valley College Foundation, San Bernardino Water offers a bi-annual scholarship to promote higher education in the field of Water Supply Technology. This scholarship of $500 is offered to Valley College students residing in the City of San Bernardino who are pursuing education and careers in the water field.
