Water Utility

The San Bernardino Municipal Water Department (SBMWD) produces water from the Bunker Hill Groundwater Basin and serves portions of the City of San Bernardino and portions of unincorporated areas of the County of San Bernardino since 1905. SBMWD delivers more than 47,676 acre-feet per year (15.5 billion gallons) of water to its service area for both commercial and residential use, and serves a population of over 200,000 residents.

Employee Responsibilities

Water Utility employees are highly trained and certified through a combination of course work in water science, years of work experience, and successfully passing a state-administered examination. These certified employees operate, monitor, and regulate wells, reservoirs and treatment plants to ensure the drinking water meets all State and Federal standards.

Water Standards

The water we deliver meets or exceeds all government health and safety standards. We reclaim over 30 million gallons of water each day using innovative and cost-effective methods to make the reclaimed water safe for the environment. It is our goal to meet our customer's needs by providing high-quality service in water supply, water reclamation and geothermal heating in the most professional and cost-effective manner possible.
